"'Til Dawn"
Emma Overman
Acrylic on Masonite
17" x 15" (framed)
$500.00

We're so delighted to have Emma showing with us again, this time with a whole wall of wonderful pieces! She is also part of the winsome playground show and will be traveling from Indianapolis to be with us at the opening tonight. If you are in Seattle, definitely stop by and say hi!

It's easy to see how Emma's background in illustrating children's books fits with her work. Her pieces are very story-like, creating scenes and lands where little girls and animal friends mingle, often in friendship, sometimes in mischievous confrontation. The content is always adorable, sometimes with a hint of sadness, but it's impossible not to get pulled in to her work. Her brushwork is clean and the paintings have a soft velvety look to them due to her use of color and light. The colors are muted, especially in backgrounds, almost monochromatic except for specific touches of vivid color, but the soft mottled texture mixed with subtle lights and darks give them a rich, inviting feel.

And then there are the frames. We're not sure where she gets them... she says she is always searching for the perfect frame and we think she's found a number of them! Large, heavy, intricate, antique frames go perfectly with the storybook nature of her paintings and give them each a distinctly unique character.

The opening reception is tonight from 6 - 10 pm.
