another beautiful day! spent the morning cleaning out the upstairs storage/office space at the gallery. It’s gonna be much more livable soon…. lots of sweat and dirt first :)
i have neck-back today.
seems i am prone to pulling my neck while sleeping.
weird.
that’s what chris and i used to call it in chicago. haha
neck-back :)
it’s kinda like where it hurts along on side of your spine if you move your neck at all? yeah.
ahhhh the joys of falling apart.

what a beautiful saturday! the sun is out.. the weather finally feels like spring. A great day to be sitting at the gallery… it is. really. the door is open. lots of people are walking by. i hear birds chirping. a few people are coming in….
and then there are the gawkers. the people that will not come in.
they stand outside and peer thru the windows. Sometimes they will stand there for a few minutes, nose pressed up to the glass, hands up to shield the light from outside so they can see in better, all a few feet away from the wide open door. with the sign on it that says open. in clear few of me. back here at the desk. and lovey music playing. isn’t this welcoming? i don’t stare… most of the time i’m clicking away on lappy. i don’t think it’s too intimidating.
we don’t get it.
i mean — i guess there is always a little pressure, if you walk into a place and you feel you have to give the art a long enough look… or pretend you’re thinking deep thoughts about each piece and critiquing each based upon the cobwebbed memories of that distant art history class you had in college, thereby committing yourself to a substantial amount of time on each piece and therefore an unacceptable chunk of your day will be lost…. but it is really, er, amusing at times :)

Emma Overman
Acrylic on Masonite
17″ x 15″ (framed)
$500.00
We’re so delighted to have Emma showing with us again, this time with a whole wall of wonderful pieces! She is also part of the winsome playground show and will be traveling from Indianapolis to be with us at the opening tonight. If you are in Seattle, definitely stop by and say hi!
It’s easy to see how Emma’s background in illustrating children’s books fits with her work. Her pieces are very story-like, creating scenes and lands where little girls and animal friends mingle, often in friendship, sometimes in mischievous confrontation. The content is always adorable, sometimes with a hint of sadness, but it’s impossible not to get pulled in to her work. Her brushwork is clean and the paintings have a soft velvety look to them due to her use of color and light. The colors are muted, especially in backgrounds, almost monochromatic except for specific touches of vivid color, but the soft mottled texture mixed with subtle lights and darks give them a rich, inviting feel.
And then there are the frames. We’re not sure where she gets them… she says she is always searching for the perfect frame and we think she’s found a number of them! Large, heavy, intricate, antique frames go perfectly with the storybook nature of her paintings and give them each a distinctly unique character.
The opening reception is tonight from 6 – 10 pm.

April 9th, 2009
it was finally time to paint over the technical difficulties mural the other day. bye-bye ninja and turtle! :(
But saying goodbye has to be done sometimes, right? :) Time to make room for the new… and tomorrow show is going to be well worth it! Winsome Playground opens tomorrow night at 6pm.
if only i could get rid of this sickness…. been coughing for 2 weeks now! It really is exhausting…
But i think we’ll get it all done in time :)

Amy Earles
7″ x 10″
$400.00
Amy earles is another of the artists in the “winsome playground” show which opens this friday. I think I originally ram across her on flickr? Her works are so finely detailed, the paper dolls put together with mini brads being my favorites. I love pieces that tell a story and hers are full of fairy tales and imagination. We first showed her in our “oceanic” show last july, where her only piece sold out before the show opened! (She did send us some paper doll sets, one of which is a mermaid and octopus like her oceanic piece. They are bound to go fast, so get here early if you want to snag one for yourself!)
