old door.

February 9th, 2009

my sis took me to a salvage yard yesterday and i found a few cheap things to paint on… this old cabinet door is a dirty blue/green on the outside…. but the more i look at it, the more intimidated i get, as it’s really cool like it is and i don’t want to wreck it.

crazing flower details on the inside of the door, at the bottom. There is a basket of flowers decoration (sticker? pasted paper?) on the center of the door. I wonder what this looked like when it was new, where it came from, who used it…

detail of a painting i worked on today… kinda experimenting with different materials… i like that i was able to do smaller detail on this one because of the surface treatment… not what i intended the background to be, but not sure i want to do anymore on this one. And nervous to varnish it because i used an ink pen in there. I might get away with it with really, really light coats of spray varnish to set it before i apply the liquid kind i usually treat canvases with. we’ll see… fun to do a pail of wrenches, either way :) (reminded me of dad’s garage… i could literally smell greasey tools! mmmm love that smell)

i finished 2 more little wood pieces for the Bherd show…. (this one inspired by my cheeky monkey pjs :)

yesterday the aquarium was pretty slow so i ended up taking a lot of pictures and video… actually quite a lot of videos! the animals there are so cool. i got the octopus swimming, moon jellies, anenomes bunching up after being fed, crabs fighting, gunnels slithering around for food, a sea cucumber v e r y s l o w l y moving along, hermit crab and shrimp walking around, the black tip reef sharks swimming right up to the glass… so cool. i’d like to put together a dvd of movies to send to lou, si and amosini :)

finished the “2″ painting the other day… i don’t know where all the time goes… trying to get a couple more pieces done for the Bherd show next week, as well as the 10×10 show at suite 100.
i don’t think i have anything interesting to say today.
might have some 3d work coming up?? that would be cool… been awhile. But, as usually happens with that, it would be like a crazy month straight. we’ll see…

some UK trivia: ” The Stuarts were the first kings of the United Kingdom. King James I of England who began the period was also King James VI of Scotland, thus combining the two thrones for the first time. ” (royal.gov.uk)

I got a new bag from the aquarium last week! i was pretty excited. mostly cuz it said volunteer on it. :)

Turtle was pretty excited too… she nudged it and chewed on it a little bit… and looked up at me expectantly, thinking it was a new gift for her… when i told her it was for me she did the cat version of what my little niece learned (from Peep and Quack), “Bored.”

i miss peep and quack. lol. “never, ever… never, never…”

i am using up the last 4 or so pieces of “found wood” from when the wall was built in the old gallery space. Trying to incorporate the wood knots into the drawings better this time… (can you guess where the knots were in this one? :)
This and a couple others are for the “Sugar and Spice” show at Bherd Studios here in Seattle. The show opens Friday the 13th. Just in time to buy something cute for your sweetie :)
